General & Routine Dentistry

General dentistry is the core of the service we offer at Park Road Dental Care.

Our primary focus is always keeping your mouth healthy, comfortable and problem-free for the long term.

Looking after your oral health

Most dental problems are preventable – and when they are picked up early, treatment is usually simpler, more comfortable and more affordable.

That’s why we take a preventative, thorough approach – identifying issues early, explaining clearly, and helping you avoid more complex treatment wherever possible.

What is general dentistry?

General dentistry covers the routine checking and treatment of your teeth, gums and mouth. It includes checkups, hygiene care, preventative treatments and restorative procedures.

Treatments we offer

Dental examinations & oral health checks

  • Comprehensive dental check-ups
  • Assessment of teeth, gums, bite and jaw
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Dental X-rays
  • Review of medical history and risk factors
  • Personalised treatment planning

Gum health & periodontal care

Healthy gums are essential for keeping your teeth for life.

  • Gum health assessments
  • Scale and polish
  • Deep cleaning / Periodontal treatment for gum disease
  • Tailored oral hygiene and diet advice

Fillings, crowns & restorative dentistry

We try to maintain your smile and function using minimally invasive treatments wherever appropriate. We can if fix most damaged teeth and replace old fillings and restorations using modern techniques and materials.

  • Cosmetic white (tooth-coloured) fillings
  • Repair of broken or worn teeth and fillings
  • Replacement of failing fillings
  • Crowns, onlays and inlays

Root canal treatment

When severe toothaches, tooth infections and severely damaged teeth require root canal treatment to avoid an extraction.

  • Modern technique prioritising your comfort and good long-term outcomes
  • Dental X-rays
  • Assessment of likelihood of success
  • Strong and effective anaesthetic
  • Option for specialist referral

Tooth extractions

When a tooth is causing more trouble than good, and cannot be fixed, sometimes extraction is the healthiest option.

  • Strong and effective anaesthetic
  • Gentle technique
  • Clear aftercare advice

Preventative treatments

Prevention is always better than cure. We will try our best to help avoid you needing invasive dental treatment.

  • Fluoride varnish to strengthen teeth
  • Fissure sealants to help make it easier to keep deep grooves clean
  • Oral hygiene and diet advice to help you avoid needing treatment
  • Prescription high fluoride toothpaste and fluoride mouthwash can help reverse early tooth decay and protect against acid erosion and toothwear

Care for children and families

  • Child-friendly routine check-ups
  • Focus on prevention and confidence at the dentist
  • Monitoring growth and development

We encourage children to attend regularly from the eruption of their first teeth.

How often should I attend?

Recall intervals are personalised and based on your individual risk level:

  • Low risk patients: every 6–12 months
  • Moderate to higher risk patients: every 3–6 months
  • Children: usually every 3–6 months

Your dentist will recommend the most appropriate recall interval for you and explain why.

A calm, honest approach

We know that many people feel anxious about dental visits or have had difficult experiences in the past. Our approach is:

  • Unhurried
  • Clear and honest
  • Focused on comfort and building trust

If you’re nervous, let us know – we’re very used to helping patients feel at ease.
